. Auckland, July 19. Wm. Henry, charged with doing grievous bodily harm to Wm. Firth, a cyclist, who was fatally injured by collision with Henry's horse on Poneonby road, was discharged, the Magistrate holding that Firth we a equally to blame with accused. The horse and cyclist met on the road, and neither gave way. The S.M. said he could not think to keep to the left meant thai the rider or driver must be on the left side of a line drawn down the cintre of the road.
Wellington, July 20. Information has been received that the Hon. John McKenzie, Minister for Lands, under medical advice, has undergone an operation which lias been successfully performed.
Wellington, July 20. The Victoria College Council has deoided to petition Parliament in favor of vesting Mount Cook Prison reserve and building in the council for university purposes. The Bakers' Union has withdrawn from the Trades Council on the ground, that it has no confidence in the Council as at present constituted.
