RACING CONFERENCES.

(Pkr Press Association.) ' Wellington, July 20.

In order to stop the practice of ringing, the Conference has passed a new rule compelling owners of trotting horses to register the age and description of their animals. Unregistered horses are to be disqualified. It was deoided that clubs which en* joyed permits laßt year should be recommended for permits this year, with the exception of the Wellington Club. The Hon. Carroll briefly addressed the Conference. He said it might be necessary for him to exercise some influence in order to bring about a settlement on points of difference. He was vitally interested in elevating sport to such a position that it would command public admiration. The Racing Conference met in the Parliamentary Buildings this morning, Sir G. Clifford presiding. All the prinoipal clubs were represented. A motion was passed without dissent recommending that nominations, etc, should not be received at public houses.

Mr Hankins moved, " That the time has arrived when country clubs shall be permitted to have direct representation on metropolitan committees." Captain Russell opposed. The chairman approved so long as the internal administration of metropolitan affairs was properly protected. One speaker said great friction would be caused if the motion were not carried. The resolution was eventually oarried by 24 to 11. The official decision in the appeal brought by J. A. Goodson against the decision of the Taranaki Jockey Club, reversing that of the Patea Jookey Club in the matter of the Catch Weight race, run at Patea on Brd April, oonfirms the finding of the Taranaki Jookey Club, being satisfied that the lease of the mare Coralinn by A. W. Young was a device to evade the rules of racing. It is also suggested that the action of somn of those connected with the affair should be reviewed by the Metropolitan Club of the district.
