Hawera School Committee.

The monthly meeting of tbe Hawera School Committee was held on Tuesday evening ; present — Messrs Bobbins (chairman), Brett, Smith, MoNiven, Dive, Olarpon, and Brunette.

Letters from the board were read, notifying that Miss C. Synott had been appointed cadet in lieu of Miss M. Hooper, resigned, and that a grant had been made for necessary repairs to school buildings and master's residence.

Mrs Ashman wrote, resigning tbe position of caretaker. Resolved to advertise for applicants to fill tbe vacancy. Mr Hurley wrote that tbe board bad granted to tbe Wanganui school a subsidy of £ for £ up to £6 towards the salary of a competent instructor in drill and calisthenics, and this was to be taken as an indication as to how far the board is prepared to go in this matter. It was decided to ascertain the oost of a full set of apparatus, and, if possible, introduce it.

Miss A. Brunette wrote asking, if a vacancy ooourred in tbe teaching staff, for the consideration of tbe committee. — Letter to be acknowledged.

The following aooonnts were passed for payment :— D. N. Scott, ill 15b ; Olareon, £11 lls ; Innes and Co., £2 8a 4d ; Styles, 5s 6d.

Measre Jaobson and Glarson were re* appointed a visiting committee. The qoeßtion of Arbor Day was brought up, but the committee decided not to take any action.
