CORRESPONDENCE.

MR. McGUIRE'S SPEECH. ; To the Editor of the Star. Sir,— Mr. George McLean is to be complimented on bis attitude at Mr, Me* Guire's meeting. It takes, I hold, a large " "' mind and true manliness to acknowledge oneself in the wrong. I, too, opposed Mr. McGnire, and I have long ago admitted my error. I thought he would have been a blind follower of Mr. John Ballance, • gentleman whom I have not much con* fidencs in, though it must be admitted that a great deal of the legislation of bit Government haß been beneficial. But I find that Mr. McGnire has a miod and will of his own, that he does not hesitate to beard the Government when it is a ; question of what be considers justice, and that in such a case he exhibits a firmness of purpose and a dogged pertinacity worthy of all praise. Courteous he has .always been, and while in the House haß proved himself an attentive and painstaking member. I trust be is sound on the queatiori ot the injustice of allowing land to be held in large areas, whiob is proving such % curse to the country; but this subject seems to have been avoided, of which more, perhaps, another time.— l am, &0., J. W. Kenah. Eltham, 7th February.
