WAITARA.

(FROM OUE OWN OOEBESPONDENT.) Lawn tennis, rowing, cricket, and running . are now in full swing here. Several crews from tbe three looal olubi are in strict training for the regatta. Invitations have been sent to tbe various Auokland clubs to compete, and, given a fine day on March 9fcb, we ought to break the record for attendance. The finals in ' the lawn tennis tournament are to be played on Saturday next. Many athletes are training, foe the Inglewood eports on March Brd, and 220 Yards for rowing men is sure to bring oat a good field. A quarter-mile under tbf^ same conditions comes off on Thursday, with 13 competitors. Only Miss Cole and Cingalee :«re engaged at Hawera next week out of ova local horses, and neither are much faooied here.

Mr. J. Goodwin is getting looB»-boM§ and other accommodation pat np on his farm, Waifcara West. He has a string of four horses at work, including Calvi, to Nelson— The Maid. Mr. Goodwin wiU have a five farlong gallop on his farm and do bis long spins on iheßeo. He has made arrangements to take Label from Mr. Stead after the Wanganui meetlngF March 9th. Lebel is by NordenfeWt— Palchra (imported by Mr. Stead). Paletot is by Koßioracian oat of Formosa, and if. therefore, grandly bred. Lebel will stand at 10 guineas, and should get well pat* ronised, as he is one of the best bred horsei in New Zealand, and perhaps the most muscular horse in the colony. The Waikato is due here about 20th Feb. I would suggest to those who send their wool, &c, to Wellington that they are simply pleasing the Shaw SaviH'a hands by so doing, the object of the above firm being to concentrate all trade to Wellington to detriment of outside ports. A trial shipment of £0 fowla and 60 docks leaves per Waikato for Lovell and Christ, mas. If it turns out satisfactory a few thousand will leave Waitara by corresponding boat next year. Poultry must reach London in May to fetch top prices, at the height of the season and before tbe English young birds are in the market. Under these conditions consignments must pay handsomely.— Feb. 8.
