INVEBCABGILL, January 30, Governor Hopetoan and Coantese ar« rived at (be Bluff this morning, and were met by the Mayor of Inveroargill and the Garrison Band, and oame on to town by Bpecial train at 11 a.m. The streets were decorated with flags, bat there was no otber public display. An instalment of the earn of £42 collected in Auckland by the local branch of tht Irish National Federation on behalf of Irish evicted tenants, was sent to John Dillon M.P. by tbe English mail steamer yesterday. The annual report of tbe Auckland Law Society shows there are 75 solicitors practising in tbe district of Auckland who are not members. In reply to a letter from tbe Wellington Law Society inclosing a communication from W.. B. Edwards urging tbe necessity for legia. lation to validate the appointment and judicial acts of the Supreme Court. The council of tbe Auckland Society stated that tbey did not see their way to proceed in the matter. The report containing this resolution was adopted by the society. KUMARA, January 30. There has been a great impetus in land settlement daring tbe lastfortnightin thi» district. Seventy-one miners of Dilmanatown, with growing families, have formed a Special SettlemJMt Aesc cj.ation to prooure land in JMSiianaki. In n Kumara even more %&ctiri6y has been shown. The association was formed at an enthusiastic meeting, and , Mr. H. Burger was despatched this morning to Wellington to make final arrangements and finally inepeot the land. Tbe meeting complained of lack of information supplied by. the department in connection with laud settlement, and it was suggested that in every poet office there should be placards supplying fnJl details.
