Some of the natives here are amused and others very indignant at receiving telegrams purporting to come fiom Mr. B.ill.uice, instructing them to vote for Wi Pere for the Eastern Maori District. One of the telegrams was being shown aliout town to-day, the interpretation of which is as follows :—": — " Be strou» to influence all the Mormon votes iv your place to vote for Wi Pere." (Signed) Na Te PAiuxmi, and underneath J. Ballance, U eKiuKtou. Between Napiev and Gisborno thfttft are a «ooi\ many Maori cimrerlß to Mormonism. two missionaries having been working there for some years. The Telegraph says that it is simply disgraceful the way Mr. Ballance is canvassing by means of these " memorandum" telegrams, the cost of which comes out of the public funds.
