CHRISTCHURCH, August 23.

Sir George Grey addressed the Christchurch electors to. night in the Theatre Royal, which was densely crowded. The speech lasted nearly two hours, the subjects being village settlement, which he coudemut-d ; education, in which department retrenchment could bo effected ; and retrenchment generally. He advocated a reduction iv the salaries? of Ministers, and was in favor of an elective Governor. Sir George got a fair hearing, and a voto of thanks was canriPcl, the proposer of an amendment being refused a hearing after one hour's attempt.
