HUTT VALLEY PLANS * SCHEME OP DECORATIONS A uniform type of decoration for 1 the Lower Hutt business area on *■ the occasion of the Royal visit has be«n decided on by a committee set up by the Lower Hutt City Council. Au order has been placed for the required.

At Monday night's meeting of the Lower Hutt City ' Council a letter was received from the Wel-

lington Education Board stating

that at the request of the Hutt Headmasters' Association tf.he Hutt Valley children Would not be taken in 'to the demonstration at Athletic Park, Welling- <£ ton, .on the occasion of the Royal visit. They would line the route when the Royal party passed through on the way to Masterton.

The Board asked the Council to 'make a grant for small flags, which

the children would wave. The pro- , vision* of a small memento /for each child was under consideration by Cabinet.

Cr. H. V. Horlor said he would .be ashamed of the small paper flags. If they could do better than, that they should do nothing s at iftl.

■ Cr. H. Burrell said he would rather see a grant for a tangible memento than for paper flags. . The matter was referred to the committee that is making arrangements for the Royal visit.

Plans for Petone

m ■At a meeting of the Council of: ** the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mr. N. K. Davidson reported that a scheme of decoration to cost about £7OO had been decided on at Petone. The retailers had decided to decorate the town, and the Borough Council had given a grant and had undertaken to put up the decorations and take them down after the visit. A uniform scheme of basic decoration was '*» proposed, at a cost of 2s 6d a foot
