WOMEN'S CITIZEN GUILD

PUBLIC MATTERS DISCUSSED.

A meeting of the Hutt Women Citizen Guild was held on September 9th, the vice-president, Mrs. C. Moran, presiding. A discussion took place on the, reply received from the N.Z.R.R. Bus Services regarding destination at rear of buses. While appreciating the fact that when the Stout Street terminal is in operation the position will be materially improved, it was felt that some arrangement should be made in the meantime. A cardboard notice hung in the rear window showing destination and route number, thus providing the public with a means of becoming familiar with the latter, would help considerably. The crowding that takes place at the Wellington terminus is not only a disgrace but actually dangerous. Members reported that ice cream cartons still littered High Street on Sunday afternoons arid evenings., while the rubbish containers remain empty. The possibility of gas rationing was discussed, members stressing the annoyance and inconvenience experienced by housewives at the present .time. The promised statement by the gas company will be awaited with interest. The milk problem was again discussed and the secretary was instructed to write to the Metropolitan Milk Board for information as to when consumers who prefer raw, milk will be able to obtain it chilled and bottled The near approach of summer weather makes this matter an urgent one.
