R.S.A. Notes

Now that final victory has been won, it is for us to see that the ■ peace will also be won. The real • work of the U.S.A. will now commence, and with the object in view of seeing that all returned men and women receive that which they are justly entitled to, should encourage all of us to put our home in order, and work as a consolidated team for the betterment of the R.S.A. in general. It will only be by keeping our selves united that we will be able to win through. The idle talk one hears of where a man'served, or how long he or she was in this or that, does not in any way al'i'ect the issue as far as membership of the R.S.A. is concerned. Whether . a man was in War 1 or 2 or whether he served in Timbuctoo or any other place does not mean a thing to his right! to become a member. The sooner we all realise that the R.S.A. is a combined and solid organisation of members of all services, all theatres of war, and all opinions of free thought and speech, then the sooner can we go forward with a united front, with a strong and unparalleled membership of one R.S.A. During the past month 12 applications for relief were dealt with by the Assistance Comniiteee. In each case favourable consideration was given, and the necessary grants made to the applicants. There were two applications for assistance from the Grounds Improvement Fund, and these were favourably dealt with. Several pensions cases were dealt with on their merits. There wei - e two sittings of the Appeal Board and several cases dealt with, of these four pensions were granted, and three appeals were dismissed. The housing position, though still acute amongst returned men was eased somewhat during July, and we are pleased to announce that 21 houses were allocated to Hutt Valley servicemen. The War Graves Committee have not yet brought down ttyeir report, but we hope to be able to give some information on future policy very soon. The Annual Re-union was held recently and was attended by approximately 170 members. A first-class programme of entertainment was pro vided by the artists, which inciuued the Orchestra under Mr Stan Wood, Messrs Lockver and Fox, T. Martin, W. Norris, J. Duncan, Will Vermont an'd a Male Ballet of six from the Dominion Laboratory. The guests of honour included the Hon. Walter Nash, Messrs H. E. Combs, M.P., Dr. E. R. Cooper, J. Dallimore and McLeod, president of the Rangiora R.S.A.
