CAGE BIRD SOCIETY

This year's annual bird show which the fanciers are staging on Saturday i'4th June, will provide the public with plenty of variety. A fairly good average number of birds (all varieties) for an annual show would be in the vicinity of :{()(>, but this year the entries exceed 400. The public will see many kinds of nev; varieties, especially in the Budgie section. Several new colours, now firmly established in New Zealand, will be making their appearance ant! it would take far 100 long and too much space to describe them, but of this it can be said that although many of the fanciers are in the Arm ed Services, most of their birds are being looked after either by their families or friends, and for this rea son alone the Hutt Valley Cage Bird Societly has every reason to fee! proud of its efforts to kee?p the "hobby" alive and flourishing. Among the exhibits will be Yorkshire and Norwich Canaries, Roller Canaries, Mules and Hybrids, British Finches, Budgerigars of every colour (including most of the new ones), gorgeous coloured Parakeets, to say nothing of the many highly coloured and very rare foreign Finches. The show is being held in the Wesley Hall, in High Street, opposite the Bus Shelter, and will be open to the public between the hours of 1 p.m and 9 p.m on Saturday next. The committee lias worked very hard to make this a show to be remembered, and it will be interesting to see how the local fanciers fare against the fanciers from other parts of New Zealand. The prize and trophy list is already on display at Carey's Drapery in High Street.
