PLUNKET MOTHERS' PAItTY

fOne of the most successful parties ever held in the local Plunket Rooms y/as that recently tendered by the Central Mothers' Club to Nurses Thomas and Burgessi These two pbpular nurses have resigned from ts.e Lower Hutt Plunket Society in order to open a much ne'eded Baby Hospital, and'the large gathering of XMti&ei's and well wishers which assembled to do them honour was an eloquent, tribute to their popularity. ; The , guests were received by Mrs Stewart" (president) and members of the Mothers Ciub (Mesdames W. King, Ball, Harman, Roberts, Rathg;etfi, Reeves and Mackenzie), Among thofee present were the members of the Central Committee, representatives the Waiwhetu and TaitaKiV9|; f ;d3i;apches, Mrs. Burgess snr., Nurse Davies, and the new nurses— Nurses Twentyman, Berry and Richards.

The party took the form of a conversazione, the keynote of gaiety beingi'struck from the opening moment when the guests of honour entered,' the crowded room to a storm of applause.

- Mrs.' Stewart welcomed the guests Mrs. W. King presented bouquets and Mrs. Craig Mackenzie spoke on behalf of the mothers. She expressed their deep gratitude for the Invaluable services they had rehdered, emphasising the value of their foelp and advice in that "every Plunket nurse is a specialist." She pafd a tribute to the charming personalities of the two nurses and their never-failing interest and cheerfulness. She voiced the mothers' best wishes for their success in the'new venture, and as a token of the regard of the mothers presented the guests of honour with a cot and a sum of money. In a very bright speech Nurse Thomas replied on behalf of Nursie Burgess and herself.

An amusing competition then took place, after which Mrs J. W. Andrews (president of the Central Plunket Committee) endorsed the praise of the nurses and urged the mothers to do mote to support the society financially. She pointed out that £100 per month is needed to keep the society running, of .which one-third is supplied by the Government, the remainder having to be pbtamed by voluntary subscriptions. ' A. rausical programme was provided by, Mrs Noel Taylor (songs), Miss Beatrice Taylor (violin solos) and Miss. Joan Barber (songs).

A dainty supper and the opportunity for conversation brought to a cloae a most enjoyable party, and one Which augurs well for the continued success of the Mothers' Club fortnightly meetings.
