STOKES VALLEY WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

The March meeting of the Stokes Valley Women's Institute was helcl in the Wesley Hall, Lower Hutt. Mrs Combe presided and Welcomed It being the annual meeting, reports were read by the different group convenors, as well as the secretary's report on the past year's activities. As there were four nominations for president a vote by ballot had to be taken. The successful candidate was Mrs. Taylor, the former secretary. A floral bouquet, box of flowers and a gift presentation were made to Mrs. Combe, thei retiring president. Presentations were also made to the past year's treasurer and secretary. Following afternoon tea, Mrs. Baker sang two delightful solos, and the choir also sang two numbers. A Bring and Buy brought in £1/1/- for Institute Funds. The competition for ginger nuts for soldiers' parcels was won by Mrs. Parkes with Mrs. Warmington second. A pleasant afternoon was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem.
