RIVER PROTECTION
CO-OPERATION SOUGHT
During the discussion on the engineer's report at last week's meeting of the Hutt River Board, mention was made of the carelessness or %idifference of many of the land owners on the river banks In allowing cattle to destroy the willows which are planted purely for protective purposes along the banks. It was pointed out that the lack of co-operation had in many cases proved a serious menace to the work the board was endeavouring to do to safeguard property. It was decided to request the Government to* hasten the setting up of the council to operate the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Act so suitable co-operation could be enforced.
