FAMILIES AND FRIENDS

ENTERTAINED

One of the most successful gatherings held at the club rooms oi' the Hutt Valley branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association, took place on Saturday, when the "diggers'" were hosts at a very largely attended evening for their wives, families and friends. The president of the association, Mr. A. E. Tattinson, welcomed those preseilt, and tendered a special welcome to members of the special military force from Trentham, who were present. He thanked the performers, and expressed his pleasure at the large attendance. A programme of high standard had been arranged and everyone entered with zest into the games and dances, which included modern old-time and novelty dances. A delicious home-made supper was served by the committee. A trio of clever chldren, Phoebe, Bebe and Ivan Lawson, entertained the audience with dances, vocal solos, and duets. The remainder of the

programme comprised songs by Mrs. F. Potter, Mrs. W. Burgess, Mrs. F. Stedman, Miss Audrey Robins and Master Keen, and elocutionary items by Miss Newman and Miss Ngaire Brennan. Mrs. Noel Taylor and Mr. Woods were the accompanists. The winners of the children's monte carlo were Marlene Johnson and Aynsley Smith.

The masters of ceremony were Mr. F. Smith and Mr. G. Page, and Messrs. F. Smith. and Woods played for the dancing. The committee comprised Mrs. E. Goodman and Mrs. A. Robins, conveners, Mrs..G. Sliand, secretary, and Mesdames H. E. Edwards, P. McNicol, W. Evans, F. Stedman, J. O'Meara, E. Wilton, and D. Annear; Mr. E. Wilton, chairman; Mr. F. Smith, secretary, and Messrs. D. annear, J. O'Meara, G. Page, L. Hook, and W. Hayler.
