WORKERS' HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
SPRING FLOWER SHOW. SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. The fitst spring rfiow of the Hutt Railway Workshops Horticultural Society was held in the Workshops Social Hall on Monday of last week. Despite the inclement weather there was a large attendance of members and friends and a big number of entries in all classes. A feature of the show was the fine displays of narcissi grown and exhibited by Messrs H. Poole and A. Thompson. During the evening Mr W. H. Land, on behalf of the Workshops Social Committee, presented the Flower and Vegetable Aggregate Cups for the 1934-115 season to Mr J. Key. The trophy donated by Mrs G. .Robertson for the highest aggregate in the Needlework Section was won by Mrs J. Rev. The judges for the evening were Mr E. Hutt, flower section; Mrs McGhie, decorative section; Miss C. M. Page, knitting and needlework sections; Mr Debreceny, cooking section; Mr F. Westbury," senior, vegetable section. An excellent lecture 011 chrysanthemums was given by Mr Cairns, LIST OF AWARDS. Champion ainteur bloom: Mr H. Befkett. Champion novice bloom: Mr. W. Hainminigton. Amateur section: Mr 11. Berkctt, 4 lirsts, 2 seconds; Mr G. Uobertson, 5 firsts, 1 third; Mr W. Baker, 1 first, 3 seconds, 2 thirds. Novice section: Mr J. Richards, 3 firsts, 1 second; Mr W. Hamniington, .'! lirsts, 2 seconds; Mr W. A. Kowley, 1 first, two thirds; Mr J. Kay, 1 first. Four vases cut flowers: Mrs Sanations 1; Mr J. Richards, 2. Six stems polyanthus: Mr L, Turner, 1; Mr J. Maxwell, 2. Twelve blooms anemones: Mr J. Key, 1 and 2; Mr J. Maxwell, 3. Nine stems freesias: Mr J. Maxwell, 1 and 2; Mrs IS. B. Willis, 3. <3ix blooms pansies: Mr C, Cathro, 1 and 2.
