ST STEPHEN'S CHURCH.

A missionary conference was held oil Monday evening, 7th inst, when a fair number of people assembled, considering the unpleasant weather conditions.. The Rev J.* E. Lopdell presided and gave a short opening address on "Consecration in the light of the challenge of missionary intelligence throughout the world." Mrs. Lopdell spoke of the women's work in the Church, giving

figures of the number of women in various mission fields of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, and also in all the various committees 1 , Guilds, P.W.M.17, Visiting Committee, Bible Classes, Sunday Schools, etc. There arc some -7,000 communicant women members in the Church. Mr. J. A. Feist followed with an address on the men of the Church. He gave an exhaustive outline of the work of the men, from the Moderator to the ordinary Church member. His address was brightened with flashes of humour which was enjoyed by all present. Mr. F. McDonald entered into the finances of the Church, dealing with the amount of money the General Assembly needs to carry on its work at home and abroad. He mado plain many points which was interesting to those not familiar with the financial machinery of the ifhurch. All the speakers applied tlicir subjects to the local church, and to St. Stephen's obligations.

This helpful evening was brought to a close by tlie Girls' Auxiliary putting oh the play "The Awakening" which was enjoyed very much, not only for its message, but for the graceful interpretation of the girls.
