Monday. Mr L. G. Lowry, Labour candidate, will address a public meeting at Te Horo to-night at 8 o'clock. A meeting of ladies interested in election matters are invited to meet Mr Will Appleton, the Independent candidate, at the Cosy sample-room on Friday afternoon next at 3 p.m. A dance, with euchre, will be held at the Railway theatre on Saturday night when ladies will be admitted for ninepence and a basket, gents at 1/6The ladies' committee in charge an nounee that the functio'n is being held to further the candidature of Mr L G. Lowry, the Labour candidate.

We are pleased to learn that the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Fogden, at present in hospital in Palmcrston North, is making a good recovery after a recent operation to her foot.

Mr H. Wright, stationmaster (for some time o"n the railway staff at Otaki), who has been spending his holidays in an extended tour of the North Island, will rosume his duties at Featherston to-day.

Mr. L. G. Lowry, Labour candidate, addressed a meeting at Ohau on Friday evening when there was a large gathering. Mr. Lowry, who received a splendid hearing, spoke on the main topics of the day and at the conclusion was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks. Mr. McLeavey was chairman.

The euchre tournament at Raukawa on Friday night was not largely attended, due, no doubt, to the political and other meetings. However, a pleasant evening was spent 'by those present. First prizes were won by Mrs Taipua and Mr G. Gordon and second prizes by Mrs Johnson and Mr Bob Niekolls.

The Otaki Volunteer Fire Brigade, one of the most valuable organisations a town can. have, will hold a monster dance at the 'Railway theatre on Saturday night, 20th inst., when Godson's orchestra of talented musicians, will supply the music. There will be dances to suit all —modern, old-time, and novelty. As the price is low, with supper free, there should be a large gathering.

The carnival dance, in aid of the Marigold Queen at Te Horo on Friday night was well attended, and among the visitors were nearby and some from Wellington. Miss Utiku and Mr Sharp supplied good music, the supper was home-made, Mr Gibbons was a capable M.C., while Mr Beauchamp ably supervised the euchre games. These were won'by Mrs Butt and Mr A. Thomson (ifirsts) and Mrs Beauchamp and Mr H. McKenzie (seconds).

At the Manawatu Show, two Otaki residents, Mr W. H. Reynolds and Mi A. W. Bills, were successful in the N.Z. Collie Club Classes, gaining wins as follows:—Hocking Cup, for rough ■coated dog:- J. Jarrett 1, Miss E. I. S Piper (Palmerston North) 2, W. H. Reynolds 3; 5 entries. Jubilee Cup, for bitch: W. E. Reynolds 1 and 2, L. E. Hall C'P.N.) 3; only entries.
