SHANNON SCHOOL COMMITTEE
«, MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the above was held in the Schoolroom on Tuesday evening. Present: Messrs Best (chair), Cole, Christian, Ventry-Smith, Warman, Harper, Campbell (secretary), and the Headmaster (Mr McDonald). An apology was received from Mr Radfo'rd. The chairman welcomed) Mr Christian back to the committee, stressing the good work done by him on previous occasions. Resolved that Mr Hyde be thanked for his assistance in raising funds for school boys in fc-'otball team to visit New Plymouth, also Mr McDonald for his efforts. HEADMASTER'S REPORT. The Headmaster (Mr McDonald) reported that the roll number now stands at 305; also that 21 entries had been! received for the Calf Club competition. INSPECTOR'S REPORT. On the motion of Mr Campbell, it was decided to record in the minutes the Head Inspector's report pointing out the very efficient manner in. which the school is controlled by Mr McDonald and the excellent results obtained. SCHOOL 'RESIDENCE. A letter was received from Mr Lin'klater, enclosing telegram from tho Minister of Education, advising that approval had been given for additions to be made to headmaster's residence. Resolved to write to Mr Linklater expressing appreciation of his assistance. REPAIRS TO BUILDING. Correspondence was received from the Education Bo'ard advising that repairs to buildings would be held over in the meantime and that cisterns and lavatories will b e attended to at an early .date. Estimates requested were submitted. GENERAL. The work of painting the interior of the school has been approved of and carried out. ' Miss J. Smith was granted leave of absence for six months. The Board wrote accepting Messrs J. T. Bovis and W. J. Christian's appointment to the Committee. Advice was received that Miss A. Lindsay had been appoi?ited to fill the vacancy on the staff. It was decided to write to the Borough Council re the pipes being insufficient to' cope with storm water from the horse paddock. Resolved that the secretary write to the Borough Council and others interested re the establishing of swimming baths in Shannon.
