Decline in Cotton Exports to Australia
APPEAL PROM LANCASHIRE.
(By Telegraph-Press Assn.-Copyright.} LONDON, April 17.
Mr. Walter Runciman (president of the Board of Trade) received a depfttation from a joint committee of cotton trade organisations in connection with the decline of the trade in piece-goods to Australia since the Ottawa Agreement. The deputation said that there was strong feeling in Lancashire against the increased duties imposed in 1934 not in accord with the Ottawa Agreement. There was serious concern regarding the situation generally, and they urged that in future the cotton trade with Australia should be fully kept in mind by the United Kingdom Government when the position regarding Australian products in Britain was being discussed. Mr. Runciman assured the deputation that its representations would receive full consideration, and be brought to the attention of the Ausralian Minisers.
