White House announced that Mr Roosevelt would personally greet Rear-Admiral Byrd on his arrival at Washington on May 10 aboard the Bear of Oakland. The previous expedition returned directly to New York. To-day’s announcement was the first intimation that a special welcome programme had been arranged. On the evening of his arrival, Rear-Admiral Byrd and the members of his expedition will be entertained at a reception by the National Geographical Society.
