LAY WORRY ASIDE AT THE CINEMA.

i TO-NIGHT ONLY, STRIKING DOUBLE FEATURE PROGRAMME. “Locking Forward” is said to be one of the most profoundly stirring dramas of the season. The picture,, •which deals with the lives of two business men, is unique in respect to its handling of two stories in one. The life of a millionaire department store owner whose wife deserts him when he faces financial ’ ruin is counterbalanced with the story of the humible employee who likewise is baffled by his inability to meet.his payments and keep his home together, but whose family prove their loyalty when he most needs it.

Barrymore, who played the bookkeeper in “Grand Hotei,” has another intensely human role in “Looking Forward,” in which he again plays a bookkeeper, this time in the great London department store of which Lewis Stone is the owner. Miss Hume is seen as Stone’s faithless second wife, Miss Allan plays his daughter, and Phillips Holmes is the son. The story shows how the woman in the life of each man affects that man’s destiny. The old bookkeeper’s wife regenerates him when his world comes crashing about his ears; the millionaire’s (wife tears him down. In the stirring climax it is the old book-keep-er who proves himself a figure of power and saves a tottering mercantile machine.

(“Looking Forward’’ is based on the stage play, “Service,” and was directed by Clarence Brown, who has produced most of the Joan Crawford and Greta Garfbo successes.

“‘Half a Sinner,” gay and tense comedy drama of the Kansas crossroads town comes to the Eegent Theatre tonight for one night only. The story ia that of a card sharp who arrives in •a small town determined to outplay all the local poker enthusiasts. He becomes involved in the exciting ad,ventures and romance of Joel McOrea and Sallie Blane. He, by the way, is Berton Churchill, noted stage star. YouSll (know that “The Deacon” is the worst crook —and the most lovable you’ve ever seen oh the screen, but you’ll be for him because he is out cheating the so-called “honest people.” The loves and troubles of Joel and iSallie will thrill you and make yon laugh. For “Half a (Sinner” is all in fun, despite the unprepossessing title. You’ll do well not to miss this production, it’s well up in entertainment value.
