ROUGH WEATHER.

VARIABLE GALE RAGES. NO DAMAGE OF A MAJOR CHARACER. After a long absence of heavy wind in Levin, the spell was broken on Saturday by an easterly which by night had increased to intermittent gale force, these conditions continuing over the week-end. This morning the wind had moderated somewhat. At times it had veered to the north and occasionally to the south-east, and at least one gust yesterday morning came from a westerly direction. No serious damage has been reported but fruit trees and gardens have suffered. Early on Sunday morning an Interruption was caused on the power line on Gladstone Road owing to a branch of a pine tree falling across the line. It broke one of the wires and damaged two others necessitating a new complete span of wires being put in. This work was completed her fore 8 a.m. and the power restored. In Queenwood Road a cowshed was demolished. Several instances of trees being uprooted are reported.
