WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.

LEVIN. At the monthly meeting of the Levin Women’s Institute held on Wednesday. Mrs Thorpe presided over a good attendance. The meeting opened with the reading of the Aspirations, after which routine business was dealt wth. An invitation was received from the Manakau Women’s Institute to attend their Birthday Party, to be held on September 21st. Mrs Thorpe and Mrs Treen were appointed delegates to the half yearly Federation meeting to be held in October at : Mhngatainoka. It was decided to hold a card evening at the Oxford Tea Rooms on Monday, September 18th,'for members and their friends, and on Friday, October 6th a social evening is to be held, an invitation to be sent to all Institute members in the Manawhenua Group, A committee was set up to deal with same. During the serving of the afternoon tea the Music Circle gave an item. The seed potatoes for the Crawford Shield Competition have been donated by members and will be distributed at next meeting. A very interesting demonstration, "The sewing machine and its uses, ’ ’ was very ably given by Mr Sheriff, some very intricate work being shown by using some of the attachments given with the machine. Everyone present found this demonstration most ’ interesting, and a very hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the demonstrator.
