MINISTER GIVES DIPLOMATIC REPLIES TO REQUESTS.

HON J. BITCHENER VISITS MARLBOROUGH. BLENHEIM, Last’ Night. Hon. J. Bitchener, the first Minister to visit Marlborough since the Coalition took office, was accorded a warm reception at every stop. He was up the coast to-day in heavy rain. At Kaikoura deputations mainly requested assistance for local facilities. At Ward a deputation made out a case for completion of the formation work of the south Main Trunk railway by unemployed labour, it being pointed out that huts and other equipment for at least 1000 men were available on the job. Seddon asked for assistance in the provision of the Awatere water scheme. Blenheim's main requests were the railway and a new building for Marlborough College, which is described as 'a collection of shacks, misfits and temporary structures which are a disgrace to the New Zealand Educational system. .
