LIME CONTENT OF PASTURES.

-USE OF AMMONIUM SULPHATE NOT ALWAYS ADVISABLE.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) NELSON, This Day.

Experiments carried out by the Cawthron Institute, while emphasising the great improvement made by the application of ammonium sulphate, showed that the lime content of pasture grass was materially decreased by its use. The Institute states that in those cases where a naturally low supply of lime occurred in the soil, the use of ammonium sulphate, through lowering the lime content of pasture grass, might react unfavourably on the health of stock. The results of the experiment emphasised the great importance of maintaining the lime status of the soil.
