The game now became exciting and urged on by their supporters, Horowhenua dribbled the ball into Manawatu’s territory where a lino piece of passing between Stevenson and. Taylor was followed up by a solid rush for Manawatu’s line which ended in Hanna securing from the ruck and scoring. Taylor failed to place his team in the lead.

Manawatu 15, Horowhenua 14. On the ball going into play the benefit of a free kick to Horowhenua was lost owing to the ball not being kick--ed the required five yards. A scrum was oi doiod. Just ou the call of time, Fletcher, with a long kick, sent the 'ball 1o the other end, compelling Ryder to force. Horowhenua, despite their strenuous efforts in the last fifteen minutes, were unable to get a victory, Manawatu having the • narrow margin of one point to the good. Mr ,7. O’Connor very efficiently controlled the game.

AUSTIN BANNER. SHANNON DEFEAT OTAKI. The above school teams met en the Shannon Domain on Saturday morning’ when Shannon decisively defeated the visitors by 32 points to nil. WERAROA V. TRAINING FARM

On Saturday afternoon the Weraroa third-grade team visited the Boys’ Training Barm, where 1 they played a friendly game with tin; boys. The match was a clean and fast one and enjoyed by all, Weraroa proving the victors by !• points to nil. After the game ilm visitors were entertained at afternoon t ra, during which Mr f)on : aldson, on behalf of the Barn , wet coined the team and expressed the Boys’ thanks tor the opportunity of having a game. The captain of the Weraroa Club, Air Butler, suitably’ responded, thanking the ladies also for the refreshment.

VISIT OF BRITISH TEAM. A letter was received from the New Zealand Rugby Union, in reference to tho policy of the wing forward, requesting that lefereces’ attention be drawn to this rule. Information was also sought regarding grandstand facilities for a visit from the British team and suggesting that each Union should print its own programmes and that 25 per cent; of the proceeds of sales be forwarded to Ihe Union. The secretary was instructed to supply the necessary information and to give particulars of the Union’s arrangement lor printing programmes. The parent body also asked lor information regarding the amount of gate percentages required by the Union.—lt was decided to ask for 20 per coat, of the gross gate. APPOINTMENT OF REFEREES.
