Manawatu had a comfortable victory by 22 points to nine, the combination of their rearguard winning the game. In the forward divisions ilorowhenua were superior in the tight, getting the ball fiom the serums on most occasions, but their backs failed to carry on. Manawatu had the best of the line outs.

•Tlit* defeat of Ihe Horowhenua B team was not encouraging to their supportors, but novel theless they were hopeful that the A team would* equalise matters. However, again they were doomed to disappointment Manawatu winning by the narrow margin of 15 to 14. It was not until the last fifteen minuras play Hint Hoiowheiiua really livened up, ami then amidst great excitement they launched attack after attack on Hie defence, during which they compiled eight points. Manawatu vcored three tries, all of which Fletcher converted, while Ilorowhenua. scored a penalty goal and three tries one of which was converted. The Manawatu backs handled the ball best, Horowhenua. through faulty handling losing some good opportunities. The forwauls of both teams were an even lot, Horowhenua excelling, if anything, in the tight.
