Messages from Kabul regarding the dramatic abdication of Amanullah state that .it took place on Monday, when the rebels under Bacchasakao surrounded the village of Delkopak, throe miles west of Kabul, which village was the local headquarters of the King’s corps. The rebels captured the large garrison and the guns. The rebel troops then bombarded and advanced on the capital. Amanullah immediately abdicated, and an armtisticc was arranged through the mullahs, but the latest information states that fighting is proceeding in the vicinity of Kabul. There is a possibility of the rebel leader, who holds the key to the position being an aspirant to the throne. Trouble between the Duranis and the Shilzais remains by reason of the fact that Imajatullah belongs to the former tribe. This may result in friction.

Although fighting has been severe in the vieinty of the British Legation, no damage is reported and all members of the* Legation are safe. Inayatallah, who is 40 years of age, was a prominent assistant to the late King Habibullah, but after Atranullah’s accession ho was imprisoned for three years. Inayatullah’s wife is a sister of Queen Souvipa, Amanullah a consort.
