CONTINENTAL SHIP-BUILDERS
UNDER-CUTTING BRITISH INDUS TRY. (Received This Day, y. 25 a.in.) LONDON, August 11. Tile Daily Mail learns that Dutch shipyards are intensifying the competition by accepting contracts at a minimum margin of profit. British shipyards are unable to compete. A syndicate is arranging for the amalgamation of the Wilton firm of Rotterdam,, Britain’s-principal individual crnrnetdor, with the big Reiherseig shipyard, Hamburg. Two Dutch tugs are engaged in the record task of towing the fire-damaged steamer City of Singapore from Adelaide to Rotterdam. The cost of repairs in Australia or England would be prohibitive.
