CONFERENCE AT PUKEKOBE. (Per Press Association.) PUKEKOBE, July 16. The Dominion Conference of the Dairy Farmers’ Union opened at Pukekohe yesterday and continued today. Delegates were present from Wairarapa, Palmerston North, Wellington, Waikato. Levin, and Lower Waikato. Tlie Provincial Executive President, Mr W. Campbell, presided. A resolution was carried supporting tlie action of tlie Control Board in instituting absolute control; that the direct vote of the producers be"retained in the election of members of the Board and that the. Union take every step to ensure, tlie ward system of (Section being in existence at next election of the Board. Tlie conference favoured the establishment of a State Bank in New Zealand as the best medium to lower the present high rates of interest. The Executive was deputed to approach the Government regarding the price of phosphates and ascertain whether a reduction could be made and also if the grading and marketing of pork for export could he put rn a bettor basis than"dairying. The Minister is to he approached to make the grading of milk and cream compulsory and repeal the Act providing for the inspection of milking machine engines.
