SITE FOR NEW SCHOOL A definite step forward has been made towards the erection of a new school on the property in Harker street to be acquired by the Education Department from Mr. A. E. Jull as a site for the long-promised new school. The Mayor, Mr. C. G. E. Harker, has received advice from the Minister of Education, the Hou. P. Fraser, through Mr. H. M. Christie, M.P. for Waipawa, that steps may at once be officially taken for the closing of that portion of Union street which runs through the property to be acquired. Accordingly, instructions have been issued for a survey to be made, and the necessary public notices of intention to close the road will follow within a few days. It is understood that owners of property in th e immediate vicinity have already, been approached, and it is anticipated that no objections will be lorthcomjng so that as soon as the necessary legal procedure has been gou e through the way will bo clear for the board to proceed to call tenders lor the erection of tho new building.
