Basketball Success at Rotorua From Our Own Correspondent. OTANE, Sept. 7. The members of the Central Hawke’s Bay basketball teams which took part in tho Rotorua tournament returned home yesterday. In the tournament the senior team met with a fair measure of success, securing three wins, a draw and one loss, and the juniors two wins and three losses. At a fancy dress dance held on Thursday evening, the Central Senior team received a special award for its fancy costumes “Culinary Arts.” At the conclusion of the trip the members of the teams and friends made a presentation to Mrs T. Roach, manager, and Miss E. Moore, coach, as a token of appreciation of their work for the teams before and during the trip which without the help of these ladies would not have been possible. FOOTBALL SMOKE CONCERT. The Otane district football club held an enjoyable emoke concert on Saturday evening as a wind-up to its first playing season. Mr J. Ashly presided. Apologies for absence were received from the president, Mr E. G. Williams, and Messrs. R. H. White, W. A. Tod and A. Robottom. An enjoyable time was spent with music, song and story, and all joined heartily in tho community singing led by Mr G. Voyce. Following is the toast list: The King, (chairman); Otane Football Club, (Mr T. H. Roach—Mr J. MacDougall); Central H.B. Rugby Union (Mr Bruce —Mr J. Ashlv); Referees’ Association (Mr A. R. Mills—Mr G. Voyce); the Club’s Supporters (Mr J. Stephens— Mr W. Spargo); Kindred Clubs (Mr Burgess—Mr F. Holt); the Press (Mr E. White—Mr Williams); Maori Players (Mi- C. G. Robertson —Mr K. Kopa); Club Coach (Mr MacDougall— Mr A. J. Harland) ; St. John Ambulance (Mr R. Drinkrow—Mr Spargo).
