WOMEN’S INSTITUTE—KARERU GATHERING

The .September meeting of the Kereru Women’s Institute was held in the district hall on Saturday last. There was a good attendance of members and two . .sitors. 'The meeting opened with the Institute song ami creed.

Alter the business, Mrs. C. G. Averill called upon Mrs. L. R. Averill to give her account of the annual general meeting of the Dominion Federation of Women's Institutes held recently in Dunedin. A very clear and most interesting account was eagerly listened to aud very much appreciated. The roll call “What 1 like best to do on a wet day” was answered by all. An amusing competition arranged by Mrs. Jackson “Tearing an animal from paper” caused much laughter. Miss Wharton was first and Mrs. L. R. Averill second.

In the best bloom competition there was a beautiful display of flowers. Mrs. Johnston was first, Airs. C. G. Averill and Miss Logan second equal; four other competitors had equal points for third place,—Mrs. Jackson, Mrs. L. 11. Averill, Mrs. It. P. Kav and Miss Anderson.

The Institute competition “Something from a flour-bag” was won by Mrs. W. :A. Whyte with a baby’s eiderdown: Mrs. L. 11. Averill and Mrs. Johnston were equal second, their entries being a laundry-bag and girl’s frock. Miss Anderson was third with a nursery supper cloth. The prizes for the six-months best bloom competition were Swarded to Miss Anderson and Mrs. C. G. Averill, who had equal points and drew for first and second prizes: Mrs. L. R. Averill, Mrs. 11. P. Kav and Miss Logan tied for third place, Mrs. Averill being the luckv one in the draw. These prizes were donated by Mrs. Johnston. Mrs. Kay was hostess.
