SHERENDEN GROUP
Th e Sherenden Women’s Institute celebrated its fifth birthday in conjunction with its September meeting, held at the home of Mrs F. Hildreth, Mangawhare.
The party was a very bright and jolly one and there was an 'excellent attendance of members and visitors. A treasure hunt, scramble and many games and competitions whiled away the time for the children and they played very happily in the lovely big garden. Misses Jill and Marian Beamish gave a very graceful exhibition of fancy dancing and Miss J. Mason read a short, humorous play.
Afternoon tea was served in the ®paaious diniirgf-room, each member bringing a plate. The birthday cake, *ith five candles, was made and iced by Mrs G. Mason, and while cutting it, the president, Mrs H. Beamish, wished the branch every success in future years.
A competition, the ino:t original and useful article, was won by Miss Simm, Crownthorpe. A meeting to arrange for the Sherenden flower show is to be held on September 10, at Mrs Whyte’s home, Crownthorpe, at 2.15 p.m. The next meeting of the division will be held at Mrs L. Nelson’s, “Whakamarumaru,” on October I,’and the competition for that month is the best pot of marmalade.
