HUNTLY MINES IDLE
Two Ministers to Attend Mass Meeting
By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, Sept. 7. The decision of truckers in mines in the Huntly district to hold a stop-work meeting to-day and demand a heariag of their grievances resulted in all mines being idle. Before buses and trains left for the mines early this morning the meeting began, and it was still in progress when the train left. Truckers and day-wage men are demanding an increase to £1 a day. A mass meeting was held this afternoon at Huntly, when the union executives despatched the following telegram to the Minister of Mines, the Hou. P. C. Webb:
“All mines are idle despite the previous resolution. We have invited the Hon. R. Semple to visit Huntly on Tues day. Would you please support our invitation to Mr Semple and, if possible, visit Huntly yourself? All mines are likely to be idle indefinitely.” The reply from the Minister was as follows: “Please arrange a mass meeting of miners to-morrow. Hr Se-nple and myself will be present.”
