N.Z. DRIVERS’ AWARD
Substantial Agreement FEW ISSUES OUTSTANDING By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, Sept. 7. As the result of conciliation proceedings last week substantial agree inent has been reached in the Dominion dispute of horse and motor drivers. A 44-hour week was agreed to, but the Court is to be asked to decide the ease of drivers employed in connection with industries or establishments where less hours obtain. The Court is also to decide the payment for work done on Sundays by drivers whose employers are controlled by the Transport Licensing Act, rates of pay for casual workers and extra payment for bakers' drivers who start before 7 a.m.
The new award will be in two parts, one covering town carriers and merchants and the other drivers employed in goods transport services controlled by the Transport Licensing Act. The wages will range from £4 8/- to £5 3/-.
