By Telegraph—Press Association MASTERTON, June 7.
Considerable interest was shown in all parts of Wairarapa to-day in the initial appearance on an experimental run of the new rail-car Maahunui. At all stations en route and at level crossings and other vantage points many thousands of people gathered to obtain a glimpse of the car. The official party included the Prime Minister, the Minister of Railways and several other members of Cabinet, besides Mr Mackley, General Manager of Railways. .Stops were made at the principal stations, where Mr Savage, Mr Sullivan and Mr Mackley addressed the assemblages. Mr Savage said that the rail car marked the beginning of a revolutionary change in the railway system of New Zealand.
