NURSES ENTERTAIN

Bright Evening Held at Waipukurau

On Thursday evening the cares of nursing were forgotten at the Waipukurau Public Hospital when the nursing staff entertained at a dance the nurses who had sat for their exams. This jolly occasion was held in the spacious dining room at the Nurses’ Home. .Tall jars of bronze chrysanthemums and berried shrubs were used in profusion to decorate the mantel shelves, while on the wide window shelves and on low tables in the alcoves were placed flat bowls of nasturtiums and other autumn flowers and log fires blazed in the large open fire-places. Lively dance music was provided by Johnny Redwood’s Orchestra and the delicious buffet supper served was provided by the nurses. The medical superintendent, Dr. W. B. Fisher, and Mrs Fisher were present, the latter wearing a black lace gown with a black velvet coatee, and Dr. Bell. ’ Miss W. Cairns, wearing a gown of black and pink floral taffeta having a deep yoke and narrow frills from knee to hem of black net; Miss B. Mitchell, gowned in black georgette and lace, were the hostesses for the evening. Sisters and nurses present included the two candidates, Miss Marfelt, who was wearing a dainty frock in pink leaf patterned lace, the back of the skirt closely shirred with a bow on shoulder and sash of pink velvet, and Miss G. Floranee, Chinese blue georgette frock, the low cut corsage at back finished with a velvet rose and velvet sash. Miss Cooper, the other candidate, was not present, Mrs D. Cairns, frock in white and black latticed crepe de chine coin spotted in rose pink, worn with a rose pink velvet cape. Miss N. McLeay, trained gown in pale green lace with cascade frills of lace and velvet at back of skirt; Miss J. Neilson, rust red, gold threaded matalasse, having a low cut folded neckline; Miss N. Neilson, black and cream figured taffeta with a big bow of black velvet at back of waistline; Miss J. Lloyd, black satin skirt, with a smart tunic of scarlet crepe, the shirred neckline trimmed with small velvet daisies. Miss H. Matthews, frock in sea-green cotelle, with matching cape; Miss R. Floranee, pale cream net over satin, with narrow frills on skirt and over shoulders, scarlet shoulder posy and velvet sash; Miss B. Dewes, maize-coloured needle-run lace frock with frills on skirt and narrow upstanding frills round the low-cut corsage.

Miss E. Bolton, leaf-green phantom crepe frock having folded bands of silver lame on corsage and frilled sleeves; Miss N. Power, white and scarlet pin-spotted muslin, the closely smocked neckline forming short puffed sleeves; Miss M. Shepherd, emerald green satin frock with square lapels at back of corsage and long spray of white roses at front neckline; Miss M. Officer, Lido blue saud crepe, the deep corsage yoke of cream lace trimmed with tiny blue buttons; Miss J. Hansen, floral ninon frock patterned in bronze and blue having wide cape shoulder frills; Miss H. Hinman, slightly trained gown in black georgette, with white sjjiay at neckline; Miss E. Ralph, floral liberty linen frock in tones of cream, red and white with a sash of pale blue, red and white ribbon. Miss P. Fitzgerald, deep cream hailstone muslin frock with frills on skirt; Miss Howard, rose-pink matalasse frock with matching coatee. Miss F. Miller, frock in black chiffon velvet having short puffed elbow-length sleeves and silver lame belt; Miss C. Anmei, black georgette frock with shaped yoke in black lace; Miss E. Gollan, black French velvet, made with a square neckline outlined in silver lame and drop sleeves.
