Big Gain in Imports

, Canada’s trade with New Zealand is on the lipgrade. Canadian imports ironi the Aster dominion in February this year amounted to £70,800, compared with only £30,400 in February last year. This represented a gain ol about 80 per cent. . Sausage casings are easily the most important product Canada buys from New Zealand but a great variety' of other goods are exchanged. Kauri gum is used extensively in Canada for the manufacture of high-grade varnishes and also linoleum. New Zealand also sells Canada wool, cattle, hides and calfskins, sheepskins, apples, grass s,eeds, butter and frozen beef. The trade in apples and grass seed is reciprocal between the two countries. In Octobu and November, Canadian apples are exported to the south in iarge quantities and later on, in the off-season for fruits in Canada, the New Zealand product is imported. An important branch of Canada’s trade with New Zealand is the export of Canadian-made motor-cars. In the eleven months of the fiscal year ended March 31, New Zealand bought 8.297 Canadian cars, compared with only 6,149 for the same period last year. The British Empire absorbs more than 92 per cent, of Canada’s passenger car exports and nearly 99 per cent, of the truck exports. For the period under review Canada’s automobile exports were valued at £4,743,800, a big increase over the previoui year.
