PORT PLAYING AREA

Association “Entitled to Explanation”

MEETING WANTED

Another request for a meeting at which the proposal to form a recreation area at Bort Ahuriri may be discussed is to be made to the Napier Borough Council by the Bort Ahuriri Brogressive Association. This body asked for a meeting before the local Bill dealing with the recreation area was placed before the Barliamentary Local Bills Committee on May 28, but the Borough Council advised that the arranging of a meeting was not possible before that date.

"I don’t think we should let the Mayor off," said the chairman of the association, Mr D. B. Mcßae, last evening. "I think the people of the Port are entitled to an explanation as to the council’s attitude regarding the recreation ground. They want to know what is going on.” On his motion the association agreed to request the council again to hold a public meeting.

Mr Mcßae stressed the fact that, so far as the provision of a recreation ground at the Bort was concerned provision liad to be made for the future, and an area too small had to be guarded against. The Progressive Association desires the Borough Council to acquire from the Harbour Board a larger area in the South Pond than is at present contemplated.
