The success of New Zealand airmen in being selected for permanent commissions in the Royal Air Force ■in England was the subject of appreciative comment by the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, in an interview tonight. Mr Jones said that, of 115 officers in England who had been granted permanent commissions as the result of the current expansion of the Royal Air Force, no fewer than 15 were New Zealanders. Of that number 13 were born in the Dominion, while two others, although Englishmen by birth, had lived in New Zealand for a number of years and had returned to England as candidates for short-service commission*. The names of the 15 officers are: Flight-Lieutenants L. H. Anderson (Auckland), E. J. P. Davy (Waimate North), D. McC. Gordon (Wanganui), R. C. Handcock (Gisborne), R. L. Kip* - penberger (Christchurch), A. McKee (Canterbury), A. C. Mitchell (Wellington), H. N. G. Bamsbottom-Isherwood (Blenheim), Flying-Officers G. R. Canavan (Auckland), R. H. Hobbs (Christchurch), G. T. Jarman (Glenavy), A. H. Maisack (Auckland), D. H. Marsack (Auckland), F. C. Seavill (Ngaruawahia), L. F. J. Taylor (Christchurch). The two English officers are Anderson and Handcock.
