WRESTLING

Thrilling Opening Bout McCready and mehringer To-morrow night at the Municipal Theatre, Hastings, the Hawke's Bay Wrestling Association opens the new season with a most attractive programme. The main attraction is the appearance of these two stalmarts, Earl McCready adn Pete Mehringer, both recognised spectacular and scientific exponents of the sport. It is just on the cards that this will he the last opportunity for Hawke's Bay enthusiasts to witness -McCready in action His fame has brought him numerous and tempting offers, both from Australia and the States, 'the promoters of the latter country are keen to back him for the world’s championship, and arrangements are already in trim for his departure from New Zealand in about two months’ time.

All the main centres have been keen to annex this fixture and Hastings must be considered very fortunate in securing it for the opening match. Mehringer has already won favour with New Zealanders and is reckoned on as being the likely man to upset McCready’s long record of victories. Since turning professional, after winning the Olympic Games Championship in 1932 as an amateur, Pete has only suffered one defeat and that at the hands of the redoubtable Strangler Lewis, a very fine record, and possibly every bit as good as that of McCready. Patrons are requested to note that the preliminaries commence at 8.15 p.m. owing to the retailers holding their late shopping night to-morrow in lieu of Saturday. Prices are as usual and it is advisable to book early at Hall’s bookshop for the best seats. For the benefit of those patrons who cannot book but g early the assciatin has engaged an rchestr a to entertain them. AMATEUR BOUTS.
