Sunday Night Concerts

(To the Editor). Sir. —In answer to your correspondent, Mr Robert D. Pryce, and in reference to his wonderful knowledge of the Police Offences Act and tho Municipal

Act, etc., full details of which he wrote you about and which appeared in your issue of June 20, I wish to say that if it were possible strictly to enforce every law enacted, not one of us would escape punishment, for we are all breaking one law or another almost every day of our life, and as for the silver coin mentioned by him as being sufficient for Sunday night concerts, I am afraid he has another think coming, as the nimble threepence which is usually the silver coin selected is far too low to even pay the rent of the Municipal Theatre, let alone the other expenses. If the distressed unemployed had to rely on what some persons would offer I’m afraid they would go mighty short. —Yours, etc., H. HENRY. June 21, 1935.

(To tha Editor.) Sir, —In answer to Mr Robert D. Pryce’s letter, I. being a regular attender of; all sports, concerts, and any other enjoyment that comes along, don’t see why anyone should give their services for my entertainment for nothing. These concerts are popular or the people of Hastings would not go to them. As there doesn’t seem to me to be any of the public out of their mind, surely they know what they want. As for quoting the law through the Press, why does he not leave the police to look after their affairs, also our local bodies, who have just been elected. If Mr R.D.P. was looking after his own job, and many other spoil sports like him, we would have less unemployed. But I will try to bring his grievance to the notice of the convenor of these concerts so that he shall have the very best entertainment for his tray bit silver collection.— Yours, etc., JAMES WILSON. June 20, 1935.
