H.B. CLUB’S TOURNEY Notes on the Play N. WILSON’S CHAMPIONSHIP (By “Sideliner.”) The entries for the annual Easter Tournament at Napier were larger than usual, and although the wea* ther at the commencement was very unsettled, the majority of the finals were completed to schedule. The singles championship was won bv Noel Wilson (Hastings), who defeated Robertson (Palmerston North) in three straight sets. Wilson has heen playing excellent tennis, and in his match against Body- (Palmerston) in the fourth round, whom he defeateed 6 —l, 6—o, ho made very few mistakes, and played his best tennis of the season. 11. Sharp (Waipawa) played well to reach the semi-finals, and he has improved his singles play considerably during the season, and should bo a contender for a place in te provincial team next season. The doubles championship resulted in a win for Wilson and Milburn, who defeated Lowry and Forbes in the final. The latter pair combined well to defeat Robertson astl Body in tho semi-final. The combined championships have not yet been completed. Wilson and Miss Hickes play Lowry and Miss Scott in the semi-final, and the winners play Milburn and Mrs Milburn in the final. Tho ladies’ singles resulted in a win for Miss Margaret Glenny, who defeated Mrs Mawson in the final af’er playing very steady tennis. Mrs Mawson played well throughout,and to defeat Mrs Milburn anil Miss M. Budd on her way to the final stamps her aa a player deserving of consideration for the provinicial team.
