TRAGIC DISCOVERY

Young Man Found Shot (Special to “Tribune.”) WAIPUKURAU, April 6. A tragic discovery was made at Porangahau yesterday, when Herbert Eric (Sandy) White, aged 29, was found dead at the back of a shed on his father’s property at Whangaehu, with wounds in the head and a shotgun beside the body. The deceased was found by Mr George Kuru. The deceased was the youngest son of Mr and Mrs H. W. White, wellknown settlers of the East Coast district and throughout Hawke’s Bay. Mr White is the owner of Whangaehu station. An inquest was held at the deceased’s home before Mr Thomas Hobson, J.P.. and a jury of four. Evidence was given by the father of the deceased, who stated that his son had suffered from spinal meningitis when 15 jears of age, since when he had been in an indifferent state of health. He had been employed fit Whangaehu since leaving school. He recently returned from spending the Easter holidays at Onga Ouga, and appeared to bo in brighter spirits. A verdict was returned that the deceased met his death by means of a gunshot wound self-inflicted while in a depressed state of mind.
