RAILWAY TRAFFIC
Business at Hastings RETURNS FOR PAST YEAR The traffic returns of the Hastings railway station for the year ending March 31 show an increase of 4457 passengers carried during the 1 year over the number carried in the previous twelve months. In the goods department there is, however, a decrease of 4870 tons, which is partly due to very little early fruit being carried owing ’to loss through late frosts. The figures for the two periods are as follows, those for the previous year being shown in parentheses:—Passengers 33,810 (28,352), cattle 648 (459), sheep 37,883 (34,436), goods 24,227 tons (29,057). Revenue: Passengers £13,650 (£12,064). goods £37,570 (£43,790). The unfavourable weather during the early part of the Easter holidays affected the local traffic carried. The returns, however, were better than anticipated. During the period a total of 360 ordinarv and 448 excursion passengers were carried, returning a revenue of £558 10/9, as against 307 ordinary and 495 excursion Inst year, when a revenue of £634 17/7 was shown.
