OTAGO RAM FAIR

ALL SECTIONS WELL FILLED CORRIEDALES REALISE 53 GNS. By Telegraph—Press Association. DUNEDIN, April 5. i'he annual rain fair at Burnside today under the auspices of the Utago Agricultural and Pastoral Society brought forward good entries in all sections. There were fewer entries in the stud section, but the quality generally wa s attractive. Amongst Romney studs only extra good rams elicited keen competition, prices ranging from 4f gns. to 22 gns, the latter figure being obtained for a bold, well-clad, two-shear sheep on account of Adam King, IS toney Creek, 8. W. Moffatt, of To Houka, had an attractive consignment, which sold to 18 gns. There was a small entry of Border Leicester studs, but competition for these was somewhat disappointing. Eew Corriedale stud rams were offered, being practically all on account of the New Zealand and Australian Land Company, “Hoeraki” Estate, Hampden. This attractive and well brought-out consignment sold at prices ranging from 23 gns. to 53 gns. There was a fair entry of Corriedales of average to good quality, but these proved insufficient to meet the demand under keen competition. The yarding was cleared at prices ranging from 4J gns to 13 gns. The latter price was obtained by “Moeraki” Estate. Border Leicesters sold well from start to finish, prices ranging from 2 gns. to 6jf gns. Vendors of Southdowns were disappointed and passings were fairly frequent. The top price was 6 gns. but purchasers generally were prepared to operate only at lower limits than vendors’ reserves. The entry of Romney flock rams was again in excess of buyers' requirements and the sale of this class was diappointing. Choice lots sold to 7 gns, but owing to the big entry sales at the close were difficult to make and passings frequent. Buyers had a marked preference for fine-woolled sheep of this class and the general level of prices was from 2 gns. to 4 gns. A consignment of first-cross Rom-ney-Merino and first-cross English Lei-cester-Merino rams from Canterbury sold under good competition at from 3) gns. to 51 gns.
