WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
HATUMA GROUP. The annual meeting of the Hatuma Women’s Institute was held recently, Mrs Kennedy presiding over an attendance of 29 members. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdamcs P. A. Riddle, J. Hobson, J. Wilson, W. Fleming, E. Haldane, and Misses L. Hobson, H. Nicholls and K. Riddle. Mrs Kennedy read a letter from the president, Mrs Riddle, congratulating the members on the very successful vear, nnd expressing her deep appreciation of the help she had received from the vice-president, committee, secretary and treasurer. The secretary presented the annual report, which was adopted. Mrs JKennedv spoke most culogisticallv of the splendid work Mrs Riddle had done Jis president. She also expressed the institute’s regret at the secretary’s resignation and its great appreciation of the work done by Miss Allen as treasurer and Mrs S. Robinson as secretary. The hostesses, Mesdames Wilson, Coonibes and the, ’Misses Jessie and Jean Wilson, dispensed a delicious tea while the ballot for the officers for the ensuing year took place. The following were elected: President, Mrs P. A. Riddle (re-elected); committee, Mesdames E. Haldane, D. Sim, G. F. Kennedy, W. Hamilton, T. A. Howard, C. B. Lowes, J. W. Coombes S. A. Robinson, Misses Allan, Bayliss, Grant, Simmons, J. Wilson, M. Rice. Mrs Robinson was elected delegate to attend the conference at Otane this month. The nut-loaf competition was won by Mrs Patterson. Mrs Kennedy being second and Mrs Howard third. The potato competition resulted: Mrs Howard 1. Mrs Hamilton 2. Mrs Sim 3. Tho singing of the National Anthem brought a busy afternoon Io a close
